Lotteries in Europe: at the service of the common good

As the first plenary session of the recently elected European Parliaments ends, a new chapter begins for EU governance for the next five years.

The European Lotteries (EL) welcome the re-election of Roberta Metsola as President of the European Parliament, and Ursula von der Leyen as European Commission President for a second term.

During the new EU Mandate (2024-2029), EL remains committed to closely monitoring key policy developments relevant for the lottery sector. EL Members are integral to the social fabric of Europe, and by acting for the public good, European society gains every year over 22 billion Euros in total. EL and its Members therefore believe it is crucial to safeguard the important societal role of lotteries and to protect the sustainable lottery model at national and European level.

The EL Manifesto outlines its eight most important focus points for EU policy makers in the new term:

Safeguard National Lotteries Unique Role for Society;
Fight Illegal Operators and Their Online Content;
Tax Operators in the Consumers’ Country;
Strengthen Consumer Protection by Leveraging National Expertise;
Adopt a Risk Based Approach to Advertising;
Explore AI Opportunities in Digital Gambling & Prevent Misuse;
Promote Sport Integrity & urge the ratification of the Macolin Convention, and;
Integrate Lotteries into Environmental & Future Social Taxonomy.
